Set a savings goal and track your progress with the built-in progress bar. All data is stored locally in your browser — completely private and no account required.

How the Budget Planner Works

  1. Add your income sources with names and monthly amounts
  2. Add expenses with names, amounts, and categories
  3. View the pie chart to see your spending breakdown by category
  4. Set a savings goal and track your progress with the progress bar

Creating an Effective Monthly Budget

Start by listing all income sources (salary, freelance, side projects). Then add all regular expenses by category. The 50/30/20 rule is a popular starting point: 50% for needs (housing, food, utilities), 30% for wants (entertainment, shopping), and 20% for savings and debt repayment. Use the pie chart to check if your spending aligns with these targets.

When to Use the Budget Planner

Use this tool at the beginning of each month to plan your spending, during the month to track actual expenses, or whenever you want a clear picture of where your money goes. It is especially useful for anyone starting to budget for the first time.

Common Use Cases

  • Monthly budgeting: plan and track income versus expenses for each month
  • Savings tracking: set a savings goal and visualize progress toward it
  • Spending analysis: use the pie chart to identify your largest expense categories
  • Financial planning: compare different budget scenarios by adjusting amounts

Expert Tips

  • Start by adding fixed expenses first (rent, insurance, subscriptions) since these are predictable and non-negotiable
  • Review the pie chart weekly to catch overspending in variable categories like food and entertainment
  • Set your savings goal to at least 20% of your total income as a healthy financial target
