Ebook Converter - EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, PDF, DOCX, TXT

Open an EPUB, MOBI or AZW3 and save it as EPUB, PDF, Word, HTML or plain text, or turn a Word document, web page, text or Markdown file into an EPUB with chapters. Everything runs in your browser; the book is never uploaded.

What Survives a Conversion, and What Does Not

An ebook is text organised into chapters, and that is what this converter carries across: the reading order, the chapter titles from the table of contents, headings, paragraphs, emphasis and lists. Cover images, embedded fonts, drop caps and publisher styling are left behind on purpose, because they are what breaks on the next device. The EPUB it writes is a plain EPUB 3 with a navigation document and an NCX, which Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books, calibre and Amazon's Send to Kindle all accept.

MOBI and AZW3 are read with a parser for the Kindle formats, including KF8 books. A DRM protected book from a store cannot be opened; the file has to be one you own without DRM. PDF output goes through your browser's print dialog, which is how a reflowable book becomes pages at the size you choose, and Word output uses real heading styles so the navigation pane in Word shows the chapters. For subtitles, spreadsheets and other formats see the rest of the converters.

How the Ebook Converter Works

  1. 01Open an EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, DOCX, HTML, text or Markdown file. The chapters and the title and author are read from the file.
  2. 02Check the chapter list, and correct the title or author if the file had them wrong.
  3. 03Choose EPUB, PDF, Word, HTML or plain text.
  4. 04Download. PDF opens your browser's print dialog, where you pick the page size and save as PDF.

When to Use This Tool

When a book you own is in MOBI and your new reader wants EPUB. When a manuscript in Word should be proofread on an e-reader. When a long web article or a Markdown manual should travel as a book. When you want the text of an ebook as a Word document for quoting, or as plain text for a search. When a PDF of a reflowable book is needed for print.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the book uploaded?
No. The file is read and rewritten in your browser. Close the tab and it is gone.
Can it remove DRM?
No. A book protected by DRM cannot be opened here and the tool will say so. Only files you own without DRM can be converted.
Will Kindle accept the EPUB?
Yes, through Send to Kindle, which converts EPUB on Amazon's side. The tool does not write MOBI or AZW3 because Kindle no longer needs them.
Where did the images go?
Images, fonts and covers are not carried across. The converter is built for the text; keep the original file for the pictures.
