Are my images uploaded?
No. Decoding and encoding happen in your browser. The encoders are downloaded once as WebAssembly files from toolforte.com and run locally.
Why can I not preview the JPEG XL result?
Most browsers cannot display JPEG XL yet. The file is correct; open it in Safari, in an image viewer that supports JPEG XL, or convert a copy to WebP to check it.
Why is AVIF encoding slow?
AVIF is a video codec's still-image mode and searches hard for the smallest file. Running on one thread in the browser it takes a few seconds per photo. Lower quality does not make it faster; smaller images do.
Does it keep EXIF and colour profiles?
No. Images are re-encoded from pixels, so camera metadata and embedded profiles are dropped, and colours are treated as sRGB. Use the Metadata Remover if that is what you wanted anyway, or keep the original for archiving.
